BUSINESSES IN VERMONT HAVE STRANGE HOURS. SOMETIMES THEY’RE CLOSED MONDAYS. AND TUESDAYS. ALSO WEDNESDAYS-SUNDAYS CAN BE IFFY. WE’D RECOMMEND CALLING AHEAD BEFORE YOU RISK GETTING HANGRY…
Hoosic Falls, NY
BROWN’S BREWING CO.
12 Miles | 17 Minutes | (518) 205 5049 | Website | 50 Factory Hill Road, Hoosick Falls, NY 12090
LUNCH + DINNER | Brown’s is one of our favorites. It’s a microbrewery in an epically cool renovated mill building next to a waterfall. The menu is contemporary pub fare… charcuterie, pulled pork, interesting salads, and burgers. And of course there are some fantastic beers on tap.
BLUE BENN DINER
8 Miles | 15 Minutes | (802) 442-5140 | 314 North St, Bennington, VT 05201
BREAKFAST + LUNCH + EARLY DINNER | This one is a classic! One of our all-time favorite diners anywhere, there is always a waiting line on for breakfast on the weekends, but it moves pretty quickly. Sourdough french toast, crunchberry pancakes, the rueben sandwich, and the turkey pot pie are some of our faves. Breakfast served all day. **** CASH ONLY ****
BROWN COW CAFE
BREAKFAST + LUNCH | The Brown Cow has serious coffee, and tasty breakfast and lunch. Our go-to order is their amazing banh mi, and we add bacon. DELISH! (FYI, it’s baked goods, steel cut oats, frittatas, and inspired breakfast sandwiches type breakfast, not pancakes and waffles.)
COOL EATS AT THE BAR | This is a happy, funky place where you can hear live music while you draw on the bartop and sample local brews. They’ve just added a small and excellent selection of contemporary casual eats, like pulled pork sliders and Thai veggie bowls. This is a great place to drink beer, munch, and keep your ping-pong game fresh—Not a family style sit-down dinner restaurant.
LUNCH + EARLY DINNER | Super yummy burritos, tacos, bowls, and salads made to order. Ask for pickled onions!! Take out or seating inside. (FYI You can’t phone in your order.)
Tap House at Catamount Glass
LUNCH + DINNER | Craft beverage bar. Restaurant. Glass factory retail shop. All cool.
FRESH BAKED GOODS | Fresh baked breads, pastries, pies, cakes that are among the best you can find anywhere on planet Earth. All from scratch. Great sourdough. Their mocha latte is unrivaled, real GANACHE PEOPLE! French silk pie… speechless.
DINNER | This is a great place for a more grown-up dinner. (We haven’t brought our little kids, but older kids would be fine there.) We’ve savored each meal we’ve had there. From their site: “Focusing on eclectic-Italian cuisine, we proudly use seasonal ingredients from small, local farms.”
LUNCH + DINNER | Eat in or take out. New York style whole pizzas and slices, subs, pasta, and salads. There’s a good sports bar with a bunch of Vermont Beers on tap. They tend to be open later than most places in town, which is important to know on a Saturday night.
Bennington Pizza Plaza
LUNCH + DINNER | Eat in or take out. Greek style pizzas, subs, pasta, and salads.
8 Miles | 15 Minutes | (802) 442-7900 | Website | 150 Depot St, Bennington, VT 05201

North Bennington, VT
LUNCH + DINNER | This is where we usually order our pizza. Artisan/hippie-style pizza, with local, super-fresh ingredients, lovingly put together. The salads are my favorite—every vegetable tastes fresh. They have a few small tables where you can sit and eat in, but it’s mostly take out. Makes for a good picnic!
COFFEE + DELI | A big selection of sandwiches and hot coffee, and cold drinks. We’re big fans of the breakfast burritos finished on the panini grill (served all day).
DINNER + DRINKS | The left side of Pangea is the more casual “Lounge” with nightly specials and little bit of everything. There is a nice bar there too, with a crowd of usual suspects, open until midnight on the weekends. If outdoor seating is open, you get to look out over a beautiful waterfall whilst you sup. The right side is Pangea fine dining.
LUNCH + DINNER + DRINKS | Kevin’s is the local hangout with seriously respectable burgers and a big menu of greasy, yummy, American food. Their house made buffalo sauce is fantastic, even if you’re not into buffalo, their’s is a bit different. The honey stung fried chicken, also a winner. There’s a family dining room on the right, and a sports bar on the left. Karaoke some nights too!

Wayside Country Store
14 Miles | 21 Minutes | (802) 375-2792 | Website | 3307 VT-313, Arlington, VT 05250
DELI & GROCERIES | The Wayside is the quintessential country store, and has a wide selection of groceries for its size—Wines, nice cheeses, some local baked goods and produce. There is also a deli counter in the back where they make great (and voluminous), sandwiches. We love to pick up a picnic lunch here and take it on the road.
LUNCH + DINNER| WE LOVE SUSHI BOAT!!! This is a hole-in-the-wall sushi heaven, and the owners are the nicest people in the world. If you’re vegetarian, try the yam tempura roll! BYOB.
LUNCH + DINNER | This is grown-up Thai food, and it is, fantastic. The basil rolls are a signiture dish. All of the curries are lovely.
BREAKFAST + LUNCH + DINNER + GENERAL STORE | If you’re up near Bromley, don’t miss Hapgoods. It’s an ultra-cool and delicious gem, tucked into the tiny town of Peru, which is off the main drag. Worth the drive.
FANCY DINNER | Meze is a our pick for a special occasion. And if you go in the summer, you might just spot some of the actors in town for the annual theater festival. From their site “The food is handcrafted by our chefs who take great care to source local and seasonal ingredients including farm-fresh produce, meats, cheeses and breads. Menu items are paired alongside small-batch microbrews, locally distilled spirits and seasonal, small-production wines.”
LUNCH + DINNER | High quality Indian fine dining. Incredible flavors. One of our favorites.
